BOOK REVIEW
"Saving Us from Ourselves" is the work of a thinker who is also a doer. It
reveals a reflecting entrepreneur, an Easterner
succeeding in the West but
aware of hazards from self-centered living. Doshi's
insightful aphorisms
are
the fruit of a lifetime of observation and
experience. Through the
aphorisms
and by way of some delightful equations -- the book
seeks to summarize
wisdom for the twenty-first century.
Congratulations."

“In this
wonderful book, Navin Doshi raises some of the
questions that have
puzzled
people of all races and creeds since ancient times.
The author
combines the
wisdom of Indian scriptures with the lessons of
modern science,
a task that
he is well qualified to accomplish. Doshi
demonstrates that lasting
happiness is
possible only when we learn how to protect ourselves
from
the
self-centered demands of our minds.
Saving Us from Ourselves
is indeed
a great
thought by itself.”

“This very
readable book describes a philosophy of life
informed by traditional
wisdom and
direct experience. Grounded in knowledge of the
Vedas and
reflections on a lifetime of experience, Navin Doshi
suggests that transcendence
f rom our
somatic self and our mental capacities aspires to a
sense of spirituality.
In the
journey to fulfillment, all aspects of being human
need cultivation and
care,
moving toward a cosmic order that harmonizes self
and Nature. The
book
includes a gentle introduction to key concepts of
Indian philosophy and
modern
science, as well as a useful glossary of Sanskrit
terms.”

“As
advances are made in the sciences, psychology, and
metaphysics, we
see
analogous patterns emerge. Navin Doshi has utilized
his experiences
in India
in his youth and those later in the USA to make
important observations
on human
behavior and draw illuminating conclusions. His
knowledge of
India’s
traditions and his experiences in the West uniquely
enable him to
discuss
how the various dimensions of human experience are
equally important
and
necessary for the evolution of human development. In
Saving Us from
Ourselves,
he blends the teachings of authors — ancient and
modern — to
convey how
human civilization and cultural growth are strongly
influenced by
our
thoughts and actions, and can lead to personal
transformation.
